Sell Structured Settlement

Editorial Policy

How we choose topics, research, check, update and correct our structured settlement guides, how we use technology, and how we keep advertising separate.

Selling structured settlement payments is one of the biggest financial decisions many of our readers will make. This policy explains how we make sure the information we publish is accurate, balanced and independent.

Independence

  • We are an independent educational publisher. We don’t buy payments, broker sales or represent any company.
  • No company can pay for coverage, a better review or a recommendation.
  • The site is funded by advertising. Ads are clearly labelled, are placed by Google, and have no influence on what we write.

How we choose topics

We write about the questions readers actually ask: through our contact form, and through the searches people make about selling payments, court approval, taxes and alternatives. We prioritise topics where clear, accurate information can help someone avoid a costly mistake.

How we research

We base our articles on primary and official sources wherever possible, including:

  • Federal law, such as the tax rules for structured settlement factoring transactions (26 U.S.C. § 5891).
  • State structured settlement protection acts and court rules, which set out how sales are approved.
  • Guidance from the IRS and consumer-protection agencies such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Sources we rely on are listed at the end of an article. We don’t publish statistics or legal details we can’t trace to a reliable source.

Our standards

  • Accurate: facts, figures and legal requirements must match the source they come from.
  • Balanced: any article about selling explains the costs, such as the discount rate, and the alternatives, not just the benefits.
  • Clear: plain English, with legal and financial terms explained.
  • Not advice: we explain how things work; we don’t tell readers what to do with their own payments.
  • No pressure: no promises about prices, speed or outcomes, and no “fast cash” language.

How we use technology

We use software tools, including AI writing tools, to help research, draft and check our articles. Every article is held to the standards on this page, including checks on sources, accuracy and balance, and drafts that don’t meet them are not published. Our team is responsible for everything we publish.

Updates and reviews

Laws and industry practices change. We review articles regularly and when rules change. Each article shows the date it was first published, and a “Last reviewed” date when it has been substantially updated or re-checked. We don’t change dates for minor edits such as typo fixes.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we want to fix it. Tell us through our contact page with a link to the article and what you believe is incorrect. We review every correction request and update the article promptly when a correction is needed.

Advertising

We show ads through Google AdSense. Ads are labelled “Advertisement”, never appear inside our tools or forms, and are kept visually separate from our content. Advertisers have no say in what we publish. See our privacy policy for how advertising cookies work and the choices you have.

Not legal, tax or financial advice

Our content is for general education. Every sale of structured settlement payments needs court approval, and the rules vary by state. Before you decide, speak with a qualified attorney or financial adviser who can look at your situation. Read our full disclaimer.
